Animal Shelter
The Police Department with a team of dedicated part-time employees maintains an animal shelter where animals lost, found or abandoned can be housed. It is also the location where veterinarians come to Rangely each week to offer medical treatment and perform surgeries (usually Wednesdays). The Shelter provides a (dog or cat) spay or neuter to be performed once a week for any impounded animal that is up for ADOPTION. This service is donated by the vets and all surgeries are set up by the Shelter Coordinator.
On a discount basis, spaying and neutering of your pets may be arranged (as part of the Nancy Beard Fund) by contacting the Rangely PD for info and applications. The annual Rabies Vaccination Clinic is also on a discount basis for shots (usually early April). The part-time employees clean and maintain the property, water, feed and exercise the animals. With their diligence, they are a valuable asset in arranging adoptions of shelter animals. Without their help, this facility would be unable to function and for that the Police Department extends their thanks.
